It used to cuckoo when the chains where pulled to “wind” it up, like it was saying thank you. This clock had laid unused in a box for possibly 40 to 50 years we think and was going to thrown out until my wife said she would have it. Was obtained by a friends father in Germany who was in RAF, I guess between 19 the mechanism as Shutterbug says is pre Regula standard. The clock has been oiled carefully only in the little oil wells using clock oil The clock has been cleaned but not dismantled (my wife not be happy if I could not get it back together so just in case but as an engineer I am usually good at these things) I tried a heavier weight on the chain for the cuckoo mechanism and that made not difference If I press the lever on the right hand side of the clock it cuckoos

So the clock works the cuckoo mechanism works but the clock does not trigger the cuckoo mechanism. On the right hand side of the clock is a little door and there is a lever in there which if I press it the cuckoo does it’s thing However the clock cuckoo does not do anything and there is not a sound like it is trying to cuckoo despite running it for several hours. the clock works much better now and ticks better and got rid of annoying squeak. I have put the mechanism back in the case without the bellows in case I need to remove it again. I very carefully oiled the clock using clock oil and applied oil only to the little wells at the top of each spindle. My hope being that the cuckoo mechanism was jammed with some dirt. I have removed the mechanism very carefully following all good advice from books and the internet and cleaned the mechanism up as best I could without taking it apart.
